From mechanical room to Wine room

This project was both exciting and challenging, with many elements that needed to come together perfectly to obtain the desired outcome. The space started as a simple mechanical room, with an electrical box, plumbing/HVAV running through the open ceiling, and a pressure tank. My task was to create a wine and liquor storage room that was beautiful, while still allowing for access to the vital home components. I set about designing a space that incorporated hidden panels and doors and plenty of storage for, as Dad used to say, "the good stuff." Aside from the flooring, which is beautiful, I paneled the entirety of the walls and ceiling with hardwood walnut plywood, and crafted the built in wine and liquor storage entirely out of hardwood walnut plywood and walnut hardwood. The wall mounted wine bottle holders were an addition that I really love. It brings great drama to the cozy space. A piece of family art will eventually adorn the space above the liquor storage, which doubles as a removable panel to the electrical box.

This job tested me in many ways, physically and mentally. The outcome however, worth every bit of it. I am beyone pleased with the end result. I recently got to show my wife the finished space after the electrician wired up the lighting, and it was a great feeling. I could stand in that room for hours, pour a glass and enjoy being surrounded by one of the most beautiful woods out there. Thank you to the amazing clients for choosing me for this project, and to Lee the designer for making it all happen.

Here are a few before and after shots.

And a sneak peak at the access panels. I utilized magnets to allow for easy removal of trim and panels, along with hinges.
